REGIONAL INNOVATION SYSTEMS

What

we do

We employ a combinatorial approach rooted in evolutionary economic geography. We focus on the role of different types of agencies on regional development, role of supply and demand for innovation for development of knowledge economy and also tackle challenges in financial geography. We closely collaborate with praxis and our research has practical impact on decision-making at both levels, regional and national. Moreover, we address actual societal challenges related to green transformation and role of knowledge economy in this transition.

Key research themes

We contribute to understanding of the interplay between local agency and structural conditions in regional transformation processes. We develop the new typology of organizational and system-level agency constellations and emphasizes the crucial role of individual and collective assets in shaping regional development pathways.

Organisational- and system-level agency

1

We utilize evolutionary economic geography to adopt a dynamic and combinatorial perspective on the role of different type knowledge and explore how they transform over time in Europe and how these transformations relate to innovation performance. We pay special attention to the role of knowledge workers and green technologies in green transformation.
